EVE Online is a persistent world, massive multiplayer online (MMO) game, so if you log off it continues to exist for all others playing*. It started in 2003 and as of 2023 has a user base of over 9 million and from experience, there are typically 15,000-30,000 players online playing in one of the 7,800 or so star systems (opening graphic of the first video).
